Cities like Zurich and Geneva always score very highly on quality of life indices. Switzerland benefits greatly from its small dimensions and, like the countries that rank ahead of it, from its privileged position.

Life expectancy, per capita income, social security, level of perceived corruption, sense of freedom and civil rights, generosity: all these features allowed Switzerland to reach the fourth place on the list. Furthermore, all issues that affect the community are put to a vote, and this system of “participatory democracy” increases citizens’ sense of belonging in their country.
