Let’s boost our immune system
The autumn is the ideal moment to start strengthening our immune system and protect ourselves from cold.
The immune system protects you from pathogens, viruses, bacteria, fungi that can penetrate your body in many ways (through nose, mouth or direct contact) triggering the infectious process. It also has the function of recognising abnormal cells in the body, such as tumour cells.
So, it’s fundamental to find a way to boost it in order to keep yourself away from cold and flu during the winter, but also to stay healthy in general.
There are many natural remedies available: one is Echinacea, a North American flowering plant used for its immunostimulant properties against infections and influenza, to soothe the symptoms and reduce the duration of the disease. To prevent the odds of this disease we suggest taking it for 20 days in a raw per month. This an excellent way of alerting the immune system without stimulating it excessively.
Instead, if you didn’t protect yourself from flu and you’re already suffering from acute influenza, it’s advisable to combine Echinacea with tea tree oil, also known as melaleuca oil, an antibacterial and antiviral substance, and grapefruit seed oil. You can find products containing these three active ingredients that function as natural antibiotics. We suggest you to take 1 or 2 pills, depending on the seriousness of the condition, every eight hours, until the acute symptoms regress; then reduce the dosage gradually. Use this combination even in case of intestinal virus with milk-free probiotics that restore the gastrointestinal tract and are suitable for those who suffer from lactose intolerance.
Generally, in case of prevention, probiotics are essential to rebalance the intestinal bacterial flora and protect the mucosa in order not to allow pathogens to disrupt the intestinal barrier.
Another plant with excellent characteristics is uncaria, also known as cat’s claw for its hook-shaped thorns. Its immunostimulant, anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties make this plant particularly effective in case of drop of immune function and inflammation. You can either take it alone or in combination with Echinacea and propolis to obtain better results, an excellent antibacterial substance. Take one pill per day in case you want to prevent influenza, or three daily in case of acute phase.
Noni, or morinda citrifolia, is a small exotic, evergreen tree that generates fruits, from which a juice rich in active ingredients is extracted. This juice is immunostimulant and anti-cancer. You can drink 30 ml of juice per day or take two pills of dry extract every day, even for long periods, depending on your problem.
Even medicinal fungi are immune system boosters. With their immunostimulant properties, fungi are suitable even when you need to energetically restore your immune system, when it’s affected by invasive therapies or relapsing diseases. There are products that include different types of fungi in a single capsule.
Gemmotherapy (glycerine macerates) offer a number of different and effective combinations that can be taken for a long period without interruption and are suitable for both adults and children. The combination of blackcurrant and hornbeam mg is perfect to treat the cold and cough in case of accumulation of mucus: sinusitis, otitis and for children who aren’t able to blow their nose. All the people who often tend to develop these symptoms should take this mixture to prevent them.
Rosa canina mg and beech mg is useful to alleviate children’s recurring infections caused by reduced immune functions. It is advisable that children who often fall ill take these drops twice a day.
Rosa canina mg and abies pectinata (silver fir) mg is recommended in case of rhinopharyngitis, tracheobronchitis, tonsillitis and otitis. Take the drops twice a day even to prevent influenza.
We also suggest consuming natural vitamin C that can be found in every herbalist’s shop. The false fruit of osa canina is a great source of this substance as well as acerola and camu-camu fruits. Another excellent product is Sea buckthorn syrup that should be taken all winter long and it is suitable even for children once or twice a day, either alone or diluted in water, juice or other beverages.
Other effective immune system boosters are those made of donkey colostrum, i.e. early milk, the most similar type of milk to human milk. Donkey milk promotes balance of the immune system and is useful to tackle inflammation and infections in general. It contains twenty times more immunity components than human milk, including lactoferrin, which is a protein with antimicrobial properties. Donkey milk is rich in vitamins, amino acids, essential fatty acids, enzymes and minerals. It can be found in single-dose bottles for adults or children and it should be taken sublingually just once a week and possibly in the morning without food throughout the winter period.
Last but not least are mother tinctures made of echinacea, astragalus, eleuterococcus and aloe vera that if they’re combined are perfect to protect your body. The root of astragalus orientalis is used because it’s rich in polysaccharides and has immunostimulant, antiviral, tonic and adaptoggenic properties. It can be useful in case of influenza, cold, respiratory tract disorders in general and intestinal influenza caused by rotavirus.
We finally suggest to follow a balanced and healthy diet and, in severe cases, to consult professionals who will recommend the right products and doses depending on your problem.
