On 9th June Expo Milano 2015 celebrated the National Day of the Principality of Monaco and Prince Albert was present for the occasion. The members of the band “Les carabiniers de Prince”, authorities and the folk band “La Paladienne” have paraded along the Decumano with traditional dresses and performed local songs before the Prince visited the pavilion.
The elegance, tradition and opulence of the Principality of Monaco were on background while the social commitment of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation played a central role. Their solidarity is expressed through the choice of building a completely sustainable, recyclable and reusable pavilion and a selection of some donations the royal family made. Monaco responds to the Expo Milano 2015’s theme by suggesting initiatives aimed to protect the environment, sea biodiversity and tackle malnutrition and hunger.
Along with the history of Monaco, the pavilion tells the story of struggles against deforestation, unsustainable fishing, peoples’ malnutrition in developing countries as well as the actions that promote sports practices, the traditional farming protection and many other projects on nutrition and environmental protection. The pavilion shows Monaco’s firm beliefs in the objectives it set to itself: at the end of the global exposition, the pavilion will be dismantled and assembled again in a village in Burkina Faso and it will be home to a polyfunctional centre of the Red Cross.
